Inspired Makeup Monday: Grateful for Coffee

GRATITUDE IS ALWAYS IN STYLE

Hello, Friends!

Welcome to today’s Inspired Makeup Monday and the latest look series on BackPorchPoet.

Gratitude is Always in Style is just what it sounds like - a bunch of my favorite things interpreted into makeup looks. Thanksgiving is rolling around in North America and winter holidays after that. Sometimes it’s easy for me to get inside my own head so what better way to break out of the funk than to be thankful for the little things (and big things).

Coffee

I don’t think I need to tell any caffeine addict what it feels like to have that first cup on a cold morning. Now, you might be saying, “Hey isn’t caffeine bad for anxiety and stuff?”

The answer is yes and you’re not my real dad so THERE!

All jokes aside, coffee has taken hold of my morning routine and is the most enjoyable part of my morning. If it’s an addiction, I’m ok with that. I’m thankful to have a ritual to center me and propel me into my day. Yes, the adrenaline rush to my nervous system is nice, but that morning mug has an even greater impact on my psychological well being. It’s taking the time to care for myself, to partake in something I enjoy, and to push me into my day.

No one notices the eye twitch anyway.

Swatch Party Friday!: $1 AOA Studio Wonder Matte Liquid Lipstick

Hey, it’s payday, and you’re looking to treat yourself after a long week of not flipping every document on your work desk and throwing the computer out of the window. Of course, that treat is going to be makeup (what else would it be), but what do you choose?

Swatch Party Fridays are here to save the day! After watching ThatGirlShaeXO perform dozens (if not hundreds) of live swatches on her face it inspired me to do the same all in the name of helping you find that next holy grail item.

Every week I’ll swatch a product on my arm and respective application site (minus glitters because, at the end of the day, I love myself too much to do that to my face). I hope this growing swatch catalog of my own personal collection will help you decide if it’s meant to have a home in your check out basket.

After all, what better way to celebrate the weekend than with makeup? I’ll wait…

AOA Studio Wonder Matte Liquid Lipstick

These dollar lipsticks come in 24 shades and have a powder matte finish. All listed lippies had fairly even application minus the blue shade - which would do better with it’s accompanying lip liner (also $1!).

There is a faintly chemical smell to them (which is not my favorite) but generally speaking they’re a pretty good bang for the buck - especially for shades less frequently worn.

Inspired Makeup Monday: Grateful for Film Noir, Horror, & Sci-Fi

Gratitude is Always in Style

Hello, Friends!

Welcome to today’s Inspired Makeup Monday and the latest look series on BackPorchPoet.

Gratitude is Always in Style is just what it sounds like - a bunch of my favorite things interpreted into makeup looks. Thanksgiving is rolling around in North America and winter holidays after that. Sometimes it’s easy for me to get inside my own head (hence the lack of posts last week) so what better way to break out of the funk than to be thankful for the little things (and big things).

Film Noir, Horror, & Sci-Fi

I’m not sure when I started watching Vincent Price movies - I think it was referenced in a Scooby Doo cartoon (you can judge me, but I love me some Scooby). I was no stranger to a good Turner Classic Film (thanks to parents who shared their own love for Old Hollywood movies). My father bought me a huge box set of The Twilight Zone episodes and my mother has her own growing collection of Charlton Heston DVDs. This foundation has spread and though I’m no film buff, I love nothing more than a cup of tea on a cold night and a good murder mystery. I’m grateful they shared this love with me and that’s where we’re starting this november.

I usually break down my creative process and products - however- this fever dream of generic Halloween makeup and some matte shadows did not turn out exactly to plan. Or, they wouldn’t if a plan were involved. There was no plan. This was a hodge podge of products flung onto my face. I would like to revisit Black & White makeup at a later date (with not generic Halloween makeup) so I’ll leave it at that… :)

I’m happy (generally) with the final outcome but would suggest this process to no one I didn’t want to frustrate immensely.

What are you grateful for? What are some of your favorite things? Let me know! I’d love to hear them!

Inspired Makeup Monday: The Fortune Teller

Hello Friends and welcome to Inspired Makeup Monday!

Usually we show a look series inspired by a different topic every month but since it is so close to Halloween, this monday we’re looking at some good old fashioned Halloween Makeup. Because this look is basically just a cut crease with a red lip, I’m not going into detail on how I created the look. If I get enough requests I’ll do a video going step by step.

What are you going as this year? Something spooky I hope!

Swatch Party Friday! : $1.25 Glitter - Super Glitters

Hey, it’s payday, and you’re looking to treat yourself after a long week of not flipping every document on your work desk and throwing the computer out of the window. Of course, that treat is going to be makeup (what else would it be), but what do you choose?

Super Glitters Loose Glitter

This is not the first time we’ve dabbled into some Super Glitters fun. However, today, we’re looking into another round of glittery goodness.

The average price is about $1.25 for around 2 teaspoons of product (which, honestly, who really goes through that much glitter...) with an ever growing shade range.

At the time of purchase "Bitty Jars" were available but as of publication, there does not appear to be Bitty Jars available (please correct me if I'm wrong). Additionally, there does seem to be minimal differences in glitter size which is why the numeric association is also listed. These glitters were applied with a base of NYX Cosmetics Glitter Glue.
