Sensory Neurons : Inspired Makeup Monday

Good Morning, Friends! Welcome to today’s Inspired Makeup Monday and the latest look series on BackPorchPoet.

Your Brain on Makeup

Your Brain on Makeup is going to take inspiration from the cells in our bodies. These looks will take both literal and figurative cues from the tiny powerhouses that help fuel all our makeup addictions.

The Creation:

The Process:

I started the look by completing my base foundation and contour. In order to keep the impact on the teardrops, I opted for a simple eye. I used the contour color in my Wet N’ Wild palette to define the eyes and the Catrice Aquafresh eyeshadow to create a pretty, subtle shimmer on the lid. I used the Colourpop Supernova Shadow to brighten the inner corners.

To start the process of creating the teardrops I gently mapped out the shape with the contour powder and a pencil brush. When I was happy with the size and placement of my teardrops I began to define the outer corners with my black gel liner and begin to create the sensory neuron within the droplet. Once I completed this portion I began gently patting on the Super Shock Shadow and various colors from the Jacklyn Hill Palette. I went back and forth with my colors and my black gel liner until I got an effect I was happy with. I highlighted the teardrops and the tear stains with the Supernova Shadow. Once I was done I used my Lottie London Blush to add some color to my cheekbones, the outer corners of my eyes, and the tip of my nose to give a theatrical rosy “I’ve been sobbing” effect. I highlighted in my face in my usual manner with the Ofra Highlighter.

For lips, I wanted to keep the color soft so I decided on a blotted effect, using the majority of the lipstick in the center of my mouth and blending out the color to the edges. If I felt I had gone too overboard I used my foundation brush to blend out the edges of my lips. Everything was set with the Morphe Continuous Setting Spray.

The Inspiration:

To be honest, the inspiration was taken metaphorically rather than scientifically. According to ScienceDaily, Sensory Neurons “are nerve cells within the nervous system responsible for converting external stimuli from the organism's environment into internal electrical impulses.” In general terms, they’re the ones that take the message from our brains to do stuff like move and jump and RUN TO THAT SEPHORA VIB SALE, LIKE, C’MON THIS RARELY HAPPENS HAVE YOU SEEN THAT NATASHA DENONA PALETTE?!

Sensory Neurons are also categorized by their unipolar shape, meaning they have only one axon or “pole”. Sensory neurons are vital in helping us interact with the world around us, and yes, how we interact with the world has a psychiatric element in how we feel about the world. Thus, here I am, crying Sensory Neuron Tears!

Have you thanked your cells today for being complex little butt kickers? Cuz I think you should. I’m sure happy those little electric buggers are firing off and allowing me to touch every sampler in the makeup store because DANG IT YOU CAN’T STOP ME!

Comment below if you think sensory neurons look like legendary Pokèmon. Cuz, they kinda look like legendary Pokèmon...
